Stop Waiting, Start Wandering Now: Why Women Over 50 Should Travel Now!
It pains me to hear so many women over 50 including friends say they want to travel but can’t right now…
Or, I’ll be able to travel in another five years.
Don’t wait for the stars to align.
It’s time to reclaim your freedom, experience new places, and create memories just for you.
So read on and let's blow away all those myths and invisible barriers.
And…
Look at how you can overcome them and start exploring the world TODAY!
So here go some fundamental myths that we hold onto for too long…
I'm Too Old
Because we’re no longer in our 20s or 30s, we think we won’t have the stamina or adaptability to explore new places.

Calling BS on that one right out of the gate.
The wonderful thing about aging is it comes with a truckload of life experience and wisdom.
Thanks to that we know what we enjoy and what we don’t. So…
That allows you to focus on quality experiences rather than ticking destinations and instagram moments off a list.
I Need To Save My Money
I’m with you on this one and financial concerns are real.
I know for myself for several years I had this belief that I just needed to be financially “set” before splurging on any big trips.
There are two big assumptions in there...
One the whole mindset about never having enough money never seems to go away especially for women.

But also because its been drummed into us over the decades to save, save, save but...
Nobody really tells us what it’s going to look like and feel like to spend any of it.
In the absence of that information we just keep on saving and thinking we still have TIME somewhere down the road to do all those fun things we’ve always dreamed of.
The second big assumption is that travel has to be this big splurgy thing.
I’m here to tell you that travel doesn’t have to mean luxury…
From affordable flights to budget-friendly accommodations, there are endless ways to travel smart and make it work without compromising your long-term financial goals.
I Don't Have Anyone To Travel With
Solo travel may seem daunting, especially if you’ve never done it before.
And its absolutely reasonable to have some hesitation about exploring new places alone or worrying about safety.
But just for a sec, if its ok with you can I throw out this thought?
Traveling solo is incredibly empowering.
It might even sound a little OTT but I would go so far as to say that is totally liberating.

We have grown up in a generation of women where there have been all these expectations and a lot of them are to in some...
Way, shape or form to CONFORM to some mythical belief around they way we are meant to live out our lives.
Traveling opens us up to seeing how others live.
And, I’m eternally grateful for the comfortable life I have lived along with many other women in western developed countries.
Travel has also taught me not to take anything for granted.
Also, being in a totally different physical and cultural environment seems to open up our minds to the possibilities that we still have ahead of us.
There are here are plenty of solo travel communities, women’s tour groups, and other ways to connect with fellow like minded travelers.
But also don’t discount traveling with friends and family.
I Have Responsibilities At Home
Whether it’s grown children, elderly parents, or even a spouse who can’t travel with you, family obligations can make it seem impossible to take off on a trip.
But the truth is, you deserve time for yourself.
It’s easy to fall into the habit of feeling responsible for everyone else’s needs and neglecting your own…
Does that sound familiar?
But time away is the greatest gift you can give to yourself and those you care for to recharge and reconnect with yourself.
Where there is a problem there is always a solution.

Every time I travel on my own I leave my husband behind whose health and mobility is not the best.
And yes, it takes extra effort, time and planning to ensure not only that he is taken care of but that I can feel comfortable and confident that he is being taken care of.
I have friends who keep a friendly eye on him but without making it look like they are checking up on him 🙂
We have a plan for how we will communicate with each other while I am away and we stick to that plan like glue.
On a trip earlier this year I met a lady from Australia. She had three brothers but the responsibility for caring for her elderly mother fell to her.
She was mentally and physically exhausted and burnt out. And had been sent off by her family for three weeks to rest and recharge.
Her advice was that she wished she hadn’t reached that point before reaching out for help and taking the time she needed to take care of herself so she could in turn take care of her mother.
I Feel Guilty
Last but certainly NOT least.
Feeling guilty is a seems to be a core competency instilled in women.
I feel guilty because I’m spending money on myself
I feel guilty taking time to be on my own
I feel guilty because of all the other things I could, should be doing
The list goes on.
And thats the point.

If you’re going to feel guilty about something make it count and for real.
Life is incredibly short.
And to put it bluntly the only guilt we have on our death beds is that we didn’t do more with our lives.
If you have a daughter, niece, goddaughter or any young women that looks up to you this is your chance to show her that she does not to have a life full of guilty feelings.
This is a great opportunity to “role model” to younger women that we can have what we deserve.
So why should you not only seriously consider traveling NOW but why it is absolutely necessary.
You’re in Control
At this stage of life, you’ve earned the ability to design your own adventure.

You CAN create a travel experience that suits your interests and lifestyle.
No one else’s schedule, needs, or preferences have to dictate your plans.
Health and Mobility Matter
The older we get, the more we realize that good health isn’t something to take for granted.

While you’re healthy and active, traveling is a one of the best ways to maintain your physical and mental well-being.
Exploring new places involves walking, moving, and experiencing life outside of your usual routine—all of which can keep you sharp and energized.
Create New Memories And Experiences
As we get older, it’s easy to fall into the routine of everyday life.

Travel allows you to create brand new, exciting memories that will last a lifetime.
It’s a chance to see the world through fresh eyes, reconnect with your passions, and experience things you may have never thought possible.
These memories will be yours forever—why wait any longer to make them?
ReGain Your Confidence and Independence

Travel, especially solo travel, boosts your confidence.
Navigating a new country, meeting new people, and handling unfamiliar situations helps you rediscover your own resourcefulness.
When you travel, you grow.
And that growth leads to a newfound sense of independence that can enrich all areas of your life.
Wrapping up…
As a woman over 50, you have the freedom, wisdom, and life experience to make travel more meaningful than ever.
Don’t let excuses or fear hold you back from experiencing the world.
